HITECH Act
In 2009, President Obama signed the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act which appropriates approximately $19 billion to encourage the adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs).

The HITECH Act is part of the administration's stimulus package, known as the American Recover and Reinvestment Act. Together, these national initiatives are fueling both support and funding for the implementation of EHRs.

Communications Networks are the Foundation for Success
As healthcare organizations aggressively begin to adopt electronic records, the underlying communications network becomes the critical piece of the equation. The network enables the safe exchange and transfer of EHRs between physicians and across the entire healthcare network. As a leader in network communications, ADTRAN is part of the EHR solution.

Electronic Health Records (EHRs)
Today, patients often require acute or chronic long-term care from multiple physicians, clinics and hospitals. In turn, vast amounts of paper records and files are being generated by physicians and administrators. Unfortunately, using paper-based files to track patient care is prone to errors and is contributing to escalating healthcare costs.

There is a better way. An effort is underway to transform today's paper-based systems into a streamlined, electronic process through the adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs). Success depends not only on support from the health information organizations that manage these systems, but on access to high-performing communication networks that enable information sharing in local, regional and national health information networks for instantaneous secure access to patient records.

Benefits of Electronic Health Information Networks
  • Increased access to patient information
  • Expedited patient record sharing across multiple care providers
  • Secure, remote access to patient records
  • Real-time remote patient monitoring and care
  • Increased physician efficiency and effectiveness

Delivering Industry-leading Network Solutions

An ADTRAN network solution can be the foundation that enables healthcare applications to communicate and exchange medical and patient information across hospitals, clinics, and physician offices in both metropolitan and rural locations. In addition, the real value of an ADTRAN solution means organizations can improve patient care while reducing overall costs and complying with government regulations.
